Festival season is drawing closer to its finish, with Glastonbury already out the way and the rest all but days away.
So, given that a lot of people will be attending these festivals, and that the genre of most of them remaining seem to veer less towards mainstream and more towards the less radio friendly and more cult following genre of rock, I have decided to compose an article of eight songs you mightn’t have heard yet that should definitely be on your playlist for these festivals.
In addition, I have made sure this list does not contain any songs from My Chemical Romance as I am aware the wounds are still very much fresh from their teaser video for the reunion that still isn’t happening, no matter how many theories you can put out there.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the article and find some songs that you perhaps otherwise wouldn’t have given a chance.
8: Alkaline Trio - I Found A Way
This song, released in 2008 as a stand-alone single never to be released as part of an album, is a must for all playlists.
It has sophisticated lyrics to keep you occupied, a cool tone on the guitars and vocals that do not feel forced onto you, a rarity in today’s music.
7: Mutemath - Blood Pressure
If I had to describe this song in one word, the word would be unique.
With clean vocals mixed in with heavy instrumentals, especially from the guitars involved, this song seems like one that just would not work at all, when in fact it is the complete opposite.
Both the harshness and the smoothness of the song are like the opposite sides of a magnet, instead of repelling they, in fact, join together and do so strongly.
A must for any festival playlist.
6: Bring Me the Horizon - Blasphemy
A hard-hitting arena anthem taken from the massive album ‘That’s the Spirit’, Blasphemy may be one of the lesser known tracks, but still packs a punch.
With booming instrumentals and raw vocals, this is one that will certainly get you pumped for whatever festival you’re going to.
5: Blink 182 - Rabbit Hole
A fast paced pop-punk song, Rabbit Hole is simplistic in lyrics and style but remains entertaining throughout.
So if you’re searching for that one song that isn’t too long, isn’t too heavy and is still better than what’s in the charts right now, this song is perfect.
4: Pierce the Veil - Circles
The latest single from the American foursome, ‘Circles’ is quite possibly one of the most underrated songs this year.
With amazing instrumentals and powerful vocals, this is hands down one of the best rocks songs you probably haven’t heard, but one you should allow yourself the time for.
3: Young Guns - Brother In Arms
Speaking of underrated songs, this track taken from 2012 album ‘Bones’ is still relatively unknown to rock fans, but shouldn’t be.
With Gustav Wood displaying his remarkable range and having fantastic instrumental backup, it’s a mystery why this song is still so under-appreciated.
2: Andy Black - Drown Me Out
A track from arguably one of the best albums of the year, ‘Drown Me Out’ is a song built for festivals, with a catchy chorus guaranteed to have you singing along and more importantly none of the over-production many people have come to expect these days in rock.
This song is definitely one to have on your playlists to lift your spirits.
1: Pvris - Fire
One of the breakthrough bands of the past 18 months and one destined for bigger things.
This track showcases just how good Lynn Gunn is at providing vocals and all in all just how good the band know how to produce a rock hit.
A song you need to have on your playlist to get everybody moving, and the song that ends this list.
